Freesat App Launched for Android

This week saw the hotly anticipated launch of the Freesat App for the Android operating system. Developed by RE:Systems, the free to download app allows you to control your TV via an Android phone or tablet.

You don’t have to be using the Freesat service to benefit from the app, as it also includes a TV Guide plus recommendations on what to watch on both live TV and any On Demand services.

For anyone with Freesat, additional features are available after linking the Android Freesat App with your set-top box. These include the ability to set up programmes to record from wherever you are in the UK, as well as the option to use your phone or tablet as a remote for your Freesat box.

We had a good play around with the Freesat App and were impressed with how clean the interface is. You can sync a Freesat box in a matter of seconds within Settings by scanning for the box so it’s then linked to your phone or tablet. Only your Freesat ID is then required to record from your box while you’re on the go.

The TV guide is really simple to use and unlike many other apps like TVGuide by Yo.tv, it isn’t cluttered with ads or social sharing options. If you never know what to watch, checkout the ‘Showcase’ which is essentially the Editor’s Picks of what to watch.

Overall, a great job by RE:Systems and we’re looking forward to seeing more apps they develop over the coming months.

Download the Freesat for free today in Google Play or in the Apple App Store.
