More and more of us are using apps to engage with the community that we live in and Communikite is one of the newest to hit the market, aiming to offer a completely new way of engaging with those around you. We caught up with Founder and CEO, Asaf Siman-Tov, to find out more about the Communikite app and the inspiration behind it.

In one sentence, how would you describe the Communikite app works?
Communikite lets you discover local opportunities and interact with your surroundings in a whole new way.

How did the idea for Communikite come about and how long has it been in development?
After working in Tanzania for several years, my family and I moved to Berlin. I then realised that it was not that easy to get to know new people or learn what is happening in our area. Sure, there are many platforms that we could use but they are quite fragmented. I was missing a tool that will easily give us an overview of our area and will let me communicate with the people around in a simple manner. When I arrived to Berlin I met a french mobile entrepreneur – Franck Gotthold – and started working together on Communikite in September 2013. We released the iPhone version in April 2014.

What makes the app unique compared with job board/classifieds apps on the App Store?
We like to look at Communikite as an open communication platform and therefore it is quite different from traditional classifieds platforms – by the way it looks, feels and the things you can do with it.

What fees are involved for individuals, businesses and groups for creating a listing within the app?
Downloading the app and advertising listings are free.

What’s the response been like since Communikite launched in terms of downloads and reviews?
The reviews are very positive and in general we are very satisfied with the response we are getting. Since we released the app we’ve managed to get few hundred downloads. We keep close contact with our early adopters and collect valuable feedback.

What are your top tips for people to increase the engagement of their listings?
It’s important to choose the right category and include as many details as possible. In the near future we will offer the possibility to upgrade kites with special designs and animations.
